Houston Tire Service: Replacement-Estimate Checklist
HOUSTON, TX - Atlas Automotive PR, an Atlas Auto Glass-related initiative, has published a tire-service estimate checklist. The resource helps drivers distinguish tire specifications and included service charges without presenting the glass shop as a tire retailer.
At a glance
For a tire replacement estimate, confirm the vehicle's specified tire requirements, identify the exact proposed tire, and ask which mounting, balancing, disposal, tax and TPMS-related charges are included. Use the vehicle information and manufacturer guidance rather than a universal pressure number.
Compare the actual tire and included work
- Start with the vehicle. Provide the year, make and model and tell the provider about any wheel changes. Ask the provider to verify the appropriate tire specification for the actual vehicle.
- Identify the proposed tire. Request the brand, product line, size and relevant ratings in the estimate. A total price without the proposed product does not make a useful comparison.
- Itemize installation. Ask whether mounting, balancing, valve-related work, disposal and taxes are included or charged separately. Clarify what each quoted service covers.
- Discuss TPMS and related work. Ask whether the proposal includes any tire-pressure-monitoring-system work and why it is recommended. Do not assume every visit requires the same components.
- Separate warranty products. Request written terms for any included or optional road-hazard coverage and tire warranty. Ask about exclusions and the process for making a claim.
- Use the vehicle pressure reference. NHTSA directs drivers to the vehicle manufacturer's recommended cold tire pressure on the vehicle label or in the owner's manual, not the maximum printed on a tire sidewall.
No universal tire recommendation
This checklist is not a tire fitment decision or a safety inspection. Tire condition, vehicle requirements and the intended service need assessment by the provider. Read NHTSA's TireWise guidance for maintenance background, and obtain appropriate assistance if damage or safe operation is uncertain.
